CONSIDERATIONS
Am I the right therapist for You?
I could be the right therapist for you if:
You are an adult over 18 who is ready to commit to the process of therapy and gain insight into who you are, what you love, ways you’ve been wounded, and explore pathways for healing.
You are interested in more than traditional talk therapy and feel comfortable engaging in experiential work that is immersive, creative, and hands on.
You have a hard time feeling like you “fit in” or belong anywhere and tend to feel like an outsider in some way.
You are an artist/creative struggling with self-worth, fear of failure, creative block, and work-life balance.
You are neurodivergent and need a therapist with this lived experience who understands the challenges you face, will affirm and believe you, and can connect you to affirming resources.
You are someone who struggles with people pleasing and boundary setting and feel overwhelmed and exhausted from keeping up with the needs of others while chronically neglecting your own.
You long to feel connected to something greater and want to dedicate time exploring things like your spirituality, purpose in life, and make meaning of your experiences.
You are motivated by self-reflection and curious to understand the various parts of who you are.
You thrive in situations that allow for freedom of choice, creativity, and adaptibility.
I am NOT the right therapist for you if:
You are not physically located in the state of Arizona. I am only licensed to practice in this state at this time.
You prefer to use insurance to pay for services ( I am self-pay only at this time). However, I do take HSA/FSA payments and can provide you with monthly superbills you could submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
You are seeking couples or family therapy.
You are seeking a psychiatric evaluation and/or a prescription for medication
You require crisis counseling and need more support than 1x/week individual therapy would provide.
If you are in an active crisis and are a danger to yourself or others you will need a higher level of care. This includes but is not limited to: active suicidal ideation, severe substance misuse, severe disordered eating, experiencing delusions or hearing voices. You can learn more about where to access care on my Resources Page.
You are unwilling to engage with therapy that can at times feel abstract, emotionally-focused, vulnerable, and open ended.
You firmly believe that it is ultimately the therapist’s job to “fix” you, and that they should work harder than you are willing to work yourself. Therapy is only effective if you hold yourself responsible to the process.
You are not motivated by self-reflection and don’t see value in self-exploration.
Let’s Talk.
I make sure all potential clients have the opportunity to connect with me before scheduling a session by offering a complimentary 15-20 min consultation call.
During the intro call, we can go over your goals for therapy and any questions you may have. This will help us to assess our compatibility before committing to anything.
Consultation FAQs
-
During the intro call, we will go over the following:
What brings you to therapy at this time (for example: a break up, anxiety, AD(H)D, a major life transition, negative self-image, grief, or even just needing some time to focus on yourself...)
What specific symptoms are you presently struggling with? How often and how severe?
Any past experiences you've had in therapy and how you feel they did or did not benefit you.
What you are looking for in a therapist. This can include things like their values, personality, identity, and life experiences. This can also include their approach to therapy (for example: Directive or Non-Directive, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Somatic, Art Therapy, etc)
Determine the level of care you need and if I am the right therapist to meet them. You might benefit from a form of therapy that I am unable to provide, or you may need more frequency than my schedule allows. I will provide you with a list of referrals if this is the case.
...and any other questions you might have!
-
The the best way to prepare for the call is to think about (and maybe write down):
1. What you need support with
2. Your goals and intentions for therapy
3. Any questions you might have for me
-
No, I never require a commitment of any kind during the intro call. I always tell people to take some time to think it over and make sure it is the right choice for them. I always recommend scheduling free consultations with at least a few other therapists to help you decide.
Of course, if you would prefer to schedule with me during the call after determining it is a good fit then we can absolutely do so.
-
Just reach back out to me when you are ready to start and we will go from there!
We will discuss scheduling options and find a time that works for you to have your first session.
You will get an email invite from the client portal called Sessions Health, where you will complete all intake paperwork and place a card on file for auto billing the day before our first session (this is a requirement).
During the first session, we will go over your intake paperwork together.
You will be able to log in to your client portal to see all upcoming sessions, schedule, cancel or reschedule sessions, update billing info, and access a HIPAA compliant messaging service
I understand how overwhelming finding a therapist can be.
Please know I sincerely enjoy helping people find the right therapist and approach that suits their needs.
If you need someone who can help you understand what therapy even is, I can help you find a way forward.
Regardless of whether or not we end up working together, I am happy to field any questions you might have about finding good care.
